We had a busy weekend! It started off with the Buffalo Youth Rodeo Thursday night. The kids had a great night. Payton caught 3/3 in the dummy roping and placed 2nd, and Braden caught 2/3 and placed 4th. Braden also placed 2nd in the goat tying (his first time tying at a rodeo), 2nd in the flag race, and 6th in the poles. I believe Payton also picked up some barrel racing points.
Then I headed to Grassy Butte, ND Friday morning where Smoothie and I ended up 5th place. She is 19 years old this year so I never know what each new season is gong to bring and it’s exciting to get that first run down and have it go well!
From there we headed to Sturgis, SD Friday night. A couple rain storms rolled through right before the performance started, leaving the arena and rodeo grounds in a muddy mess. But Payton still put on her sparkly clothes and Sparky went around the puddles as best as he could for their trick riding performance! Smoothie and I also ended up 6th in the barrels there.
Saturday was not as productive a day. Riley team roped at Hulett, WY, with no luck, and I ran barrels in Crazy Horse, SD where I tipped a barrel.
Sunday was another great day though at the Camp Crook Kids Rodeo. Payton moved up a division but even at the bottom of her age group she ended up 6th in the barrels. Braden placed 2nd in the poles and 2nd in the barrels aboard his trusty steed Nickel. Payton also put on another trick riding performance. No rest for the wicked!
