Camp Crook Junior Rodeo 2011

Braden won his first two buckles on Sunday at the Camp Crook Junior Rodeo!  He won the Goat Tail Untying and the Junior Junior Junior All-Around, and was also second in the Dummy Roping and fourth in the Stick Horse Barrel Racing.

Payton did great too, and she came home with horse treats, a whip, bubbles, and a squirt gun, which she was very proud of!

Buffalo Youth Rodeo Series – 6-15-2011

Wednesday night was another great time at the Buffalo Youth Rodeo Series. Braden caught 2 out of 3 again in the dummy roping and improved his time in the barrel racing by a whole 10 seconds! Payton decided to run her stick horse to the left in the barrel racing, and she had a good solid time in the goat tail untying. Videos below!

Hawley, MN and Hulett, WY

My first rodeo weekend of the summer went nicely.  On Friday Jen Meyer and I took a short trip to Hawley, MN, where I ended up third and Jen ended up seventh. This was Smoothie’s first run of the summer and it was quite a relief that she felt so good after having only 10 days to get back in shape after we tried getting embryos out of her.

On Sunday I ran Special at the Hulett, WY NRCA rodeo. I’d never been to Hulett before- what a beautiful place and cute town!  Special did great and we ended up third there as well.

Just as we were about to leave Belle Fourche on the way home, a weather alert came on the radio saying that Southwestern Harding County was under a tornado warning.  We waited it out in Belle and luckily nothing much came of it, although there was a tornado spotted not too far from us.  Hopefully that was our close call for the summer!

Buffalo Youth Rodeo Series Kicks Off

The first Buffalo Youth Rodeo Series was held (one week late due to the awesome weather we’ve had all spring) this past Wednesday. You wouldn’t believe how many kids there were! I think the numbers were close to 25 in both the 0-4 and the 5-7 age groups! Our kids had a great time AND did a great job! Payton won the stick horse barrel racing, and Braden caught 2 (ALMOST 3) out of 3 in the dummy roping and had a really good barrel run on Pepper. The series will run every other Wednesday night through July 27th. Scroll down for videos!

Skunks!

Yesterday afternoon I walked in the grain shed and found the cutest stinking things I’ve seen in a long time… literally!  Two baby skunks had wandered into the shed.  Sally (the kids’ dog) was barking at them so it appeared as though they weren’t old enough to spray yet, otherwise I was sure they would have sprayed her.

Riley and Ryan played with the babies for quite awhile and we contemplated keeping them for pets (apparently you can remove their spray glands or something so that they can’t ever spray), but we ended up letting them go… after we took pictures and videos of course!

Vacation Bible School 2011

Last week Braden and Payton attended Vacation Bible school at the Ladner Lutheran Church.  They really enjoyed it and, among other things, it was a great reminder that what happens at the Routier Ranch does not stay at the Routier Ranch.  The Bible School attendees and teachers learned that Grandma Laurie uses a stool to get on her horse, and that Riley can make pizza rolls all by himself! This is a video of their program, held during church on Sunday. What a good-looking group of kids!

Thanks so much to all the volunteers who helped with this year’s Bible School. The kids loved it!
